Economic, social and environmental justice though independent progressive politics.
The PPB core team supported Kshama Sawant (who has pioneered the independent, bottom-up, viability-centered strategy) in a December 2021 recall election.
Kshama Sawant, District 3 City Council member in Seattle. Sawant has tirelessly and successfully fought for new policies that favor working class citizens. Her policy wins have included the country’s first $15 hour minimum wage in 2014, and a large tax increase on Amazon and other Seattle big businesses in 2020 (to be used primarily to foster affordable housing). Importantly, Sawant has consistently called for other independent progressive candidacies and the creation of a new working class party. She would normally be up for reelection in 2023, but she had to face a recall election organized by right-wing forces. Read more about her race here.
